Casual meetings: Schachtreffs and senior rounds 12

None of the places on this list is a club: there is no membership, no league team and usually no fee. In Leipzig the Schachtreff at the Garage Ost runs every Saturday afternoon from two to six for players of every strength, with the Caza Ost café open next door, and the Chess Club at Orinoco Books meets every other Monday evening in the bookshop on the Mariannenstraße. In Halle-Neustadt the neighbourhood café of the Passage 13 keeps an open chess meeting on Monday afternoons, the WELCOME-Treff of the Freiwilligen-Agentur plays on Thursday mornings, and the Stadtbibliothek held its chess day in July 2025 and again in July 2026.

The other entries are senior meeting places, meant for older people: the Bürgerverein Messemagistrale with chess for all seniors at half past nine, the games mornings and afternoons of the Volkssolidarität in Alt-West and at the Sonnenwall, the Monday chess at its meeting place by the Marienkirche in Halle, and the Friday round at the Seniorentreff Anger-Crottendorf. The chess and Go hour of the Seniorenbüro Ost has been missing from its programmes since the summer of 2026. In Zwenkau the KulturKino café invites young people between ten and eighteen to a games evening on the first Wednesday of the month.
