Courses, a chess school and club training 19

Adults who want lessons have two booked options in Leipzig. The Volkshochschule on the Löhrstraße teaches a beginners’ course and one for hobby players, six Tuesday evenings each from 27 October 2026, and one of its trainers leads a free open meeting in the reading café of the Plagwitz library on Wednesdays. The university sports centre runs a Thursday evening chess meeting through the winter term, free but booked date by date, followed by a course for beginners and leisure players.

For children there is the Schachschule Leipzig in Plagwitz, which offered trial lessons from 14 September, and the children’s chess circle of the KuB culture and education centre on the Eisenbahnstraße on Saturday mornings. Most entries, though, are clubs with youth training, from SG Turm and Rote Rüben in Leipzig to Saalespringer in Halle and the clubs of Markkleeberg, Naunhof, Altenhain, Sennewitz, Merseburg and Bad Dürrenberg.
