About this list

Saxon schools run their afternoons as Ganztagsangebote, GTA for short, and chess is one of the offers at many of them: the Goethe-Gymnasium, the Neue Nikolaischule, the Schule Schraderhaus, the Evangelisches Schulzentrum and several primary schools in Leipzig, among them the 9. Schule, the Erich-Zeigner-Schule and the Kurt-Masur-Schule. The Grundschule Portitz carries the seal Deutsche Schachschule in Gold and puts chess on the first-grade timetable.

Each of these groups is for the school’s own pupils, who sign up through the school. Outside Leipzig there are chess AGs at the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Taucha, the Freies Gymnasium Borsdorf, the Oberschule im Lossatal and the primary schools in Rötha and Böhlen; in Halle the KGS Wilhelm von Humboldt played its school championship on 9 June 2026. If your child goes to another school, the youth training of a club is the place to look.
